About
About this game
The Imposter Game Generator is a free pass-the-phone word game for tables of three to twenty. One shared phone deals a secret word to the crew and a blank card, or a vague hint, to the imposters. You talk, you vote, and then you reveal. It is meant to be the useful version of a game people already know how to explain: fast to start, readable across a table, and still there when the signal is not.
What it is for
Families use the kinder lists and hint mode. Classrooms use School, Countries, Jobs or Nature as a five-minute speaking game. Parties use it because the setup is a few taps and Play again does not make you enter the same names twice. The built-in words are ordinary and family-friendly. There are no film franchises, no shop names and no characters borrowed from someone else’s story.
What stays on the device
The deal happens in the browser. Player names, custom lists, the colour theme and your cookie choice are stored locally if you use them. The site does not ask for an account, and the round is not uploaded. After the first visit a small service worker keeps the pages on the device, so a later game can start offline. You can also install it like an app from the browser’s menu. The privacy policy says the same thing in more detail.
How a round is dealt
Imposters and the starting player are chosen with crypto.getRandomValues, not a shortcut that can lean on the same seat every time. Play again avoids dealing the word you just had, as long as the category still has another word left. The most imposters you can add is one for every three players, which keeps the crew in the majority.
A note on the name
People search for this as an imposter game, an imposter word game, and “who is the imposter”. Impostor is another spelling of the same word. This site is an independent generator for that folk format. It is not affiliated with any boxed game, television format or publisher that uses a similar name.
