One phone at the table
Sit so the screen faces away from everyone else. Set 3 to 20 players, how many imposters, and a category. Press Deal the cards. Each person holds the phone, reads only their card, and hides it before the phone moves on. Crew all see the same word. Imposters see a blank card, or a vague hint if you chose that. When the last card is hidden, the phone names who speaks first. Put the phone face down, talk, vote, then Reveal.
Play again keeps the headcount, the category, the hint setting and the timer. It deals a new word and chooses the imposters again. You do not make an account to do any of this.
On a video call
One person hosts. That person is the only one who presses Deal. For each player, everyone else looks away from the camera, or the host covers the lens, and the host shows the card to that one player. Hide the card before the next name. A side chat works too: the host types nothing, and instead holds the phone up in a private room for a few seconds, then comes back.
Do not ask every household to open this page and deal. Each browser picks its own word, so five phones means five different secrets and a round that cannot be scored. There is no lobby, no room code and no second screen that stays in sync. The online part is that the game lives in the browser. The deal is still one phone.
After the host has been round the group, start clues with cameras on and the phone face down. The same voting rule applies: agree it before the deal, say a name, then Reveal on the host’s screen so everyone can see the word together.
School, work and a missing signal
This is an ordinary website. If the network allows the address, it opens. It does not install a program, and it does not bypass a filter that blocks the site. Nothing about the round is uploaded.
The first visit needs a connection. After that, a service worker keeps the pages on the device, so a later round can start with no signal. Names, custom lists and your cookie choice stay in the browser.
If you only want a single secret word, for a worksheet or to check a category, use the word generator. That draw is not a dealt round. Come back here, or to the generator, when the group is in the room.
Playing online
Do I need to download an app?
No. The generator on this page runs in the browser. There is no account, no app store and no install step. You can add the site to your home screen from the browser menu if you want an icon, and that is still this same page.
Can we play on a video call?
Yes, if one person hosts the phone. Deal on that one device. Show the card to a single player while everyone else looks away, or covers their camera, then hide it before the next person. When the phone has been round, put it face down and start the clues. Do not all open the site and deal separately.
Will several phones deal the same word?
No. Each browser deals its own word. The game has no lobby and does not sync a round between devices. One shared phone, passed around or hosted on the call, is the whole table.
Does it work without a signal?
After the first visit, a service worker keeps the app on the device, so a later round can start offline. The first load still needs a connection. Dealing stays in the browser either way.
